WoW: 2005 Bug Makes Epic Return

World of Warcraft's Corrupted Blood Bug Returns in Season of Discovery

The infamous Corrupted Blood incident from World of Warcraft's past has unexpectedly reappeared in the Season of Discovery servers. A bug related to the Zul'Gurub raid, reintroduced in Phase 5 (September 2024), has allowed the deadly Corrupted Blood spell to spread beyond its intended confines. Videos circulating online show players in Stormwind City succumbing to the plague, mirroring the chaos of the original 2005 event.

The Zul'Gurub raid, originally part of Patch 1.7 (Rise of the Blood God, September 2005), features Hakkar the Soulflayer, whose Corrupted Blood spell inflicts damage over time and spreads to nearby players. While normally manageable with strong healing, the bug allows the spread beyond the raid, creating widespread pandemonium. A recent video posted on r/classicwow vividly demonstrates this, showing the debuff rapidly decimating players in Stormwind's Trade District. The scene echoes the 2005 incident where players deliberately used infected pets to spread the plague across the game world.

Concerns for Hardcore Realms

The reappearance of this bug has sparked debate among players. Some believe it's an unresolved issue, while others are worried about its potential impact on the World of Warcraft: Classic Hardcore servers. Unlike Season of Discovery, Hardcore mode features permanent death, meaning a single encounter with Corrupted Blood could mean the end for a character.

Despite past attempts to address the issue, the legacy of Corrupted Blood continues to haunt World of Warcraft. With Season of Discovery's seventh phase slated for early 2025, the timing of Blizzard's fix remains uncertain. The question remains: will Blizzard resolve this issue before it causes further disruptions?
