Neople, a Nexon subsidiary, is poised to unleash its highly anticipated hardcore RPG slasher, The First Berserker: Khazan, onto PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 27th. To whet players' appetites, an eight-minute gameplay trailer has been released, showcasing the game's intricate and demanding combat system.
The trailer highlights three crucial combat pillars: attack, dodge, and defend. Defense, while effective, consumes significantly more stamina than dodging. However, perfectly timed blocks not only reduce stamina drain but also minimize stun effects. Dodging, conversely, is more stamina-efficient but demands precise timing and quick reflexes to fully utilize its invulnerability frames. As with many soulslike titles, masterful stamina management is key to success in The First Berserker: Khazan.
Running out of stamina plunges Khazan into a vulnerable state of exhaustion, leaving him open to devastating attacks. This mechanic, however, can be strategically exploited against enemies possessing stamina bars; players can deplete their opponent's stamina before unleashing powerful, decisive blows. Enemies lacking stamina bars still succumb to persistent attacks, though their resilience requires patience, precise positioning, and impeccable timing. The developers offer a degree of balance, however, as enemy stamina does not regenerate.
