Concord: Post-Launch Roadmap and Gameplay Tips Unveiled
With Concord's August 23rd launch on PS5 and PC fast approaching, Sony and Firewalk Studios have detailed the game's post-launch content plans. This follows the successful open beta last month. Let's dive into the updates and gameplay strategies.
No Battle Pass, Meaningful Rewards
Unlike many hero shooters, Concord will not feature a traditional Battle Pass. Firewalk Studios prioritized a rewarding base experience, focusing on account and character progression, and job completion for substantial rewards from the outset.
Season 1: The Tempest – Arriving in October
Season 1, titled "The Tempest," kicks off in October, bringing a new Freegunner character, a fresh map, additional Freegunner Variants, and a host of new cosmetics. Weekly Cinematic Vignettes will also enrich the Northstar crew's storyline.
In-Game Store and Future Seasons
An in-game store, debuting in Season 1, will offer purely cosmetic items, ensuring a fair and balanced gameplay experience. These additions will complement the extensive rewards earned through standard progression. Season 2 is already planned for January 2025, promising a consistent stream of content throughout Concord's first year.
Mastering Concord: Crew Builder and Roles
Game director Ryan Ellis shared insights into optimal gameplay. Concord's "Crew Builder" system lets players create custom teams of five Freegunners, with the ability to include up to three copies of any Variant. This allows for strategic team composition based on playstyle and match challenges. Combining Freegunners from diverse roles unlocks Crew Bonuses, offering benefits like increased mobility and reduced cooldowns.
Unlike traditional Tank/Support roles, Concord's Freegunners emphasize high DPS and direct combat effectiveness. Six distinct roles – Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden – define their impact on the battlefield, ranging from area control to flanking maneuvers.
