MindsEye receives the first in a series of emergency hotfixes aimed at improving game performance following a troubled launch.
Yesterday, developer Build A Rocket Boy expressed being "heartbroken" over the technical issues plaguing the recently released game, pledging rapid fixes for performance problems, glitches, and AI behavior issues.
The rocky launch saw canceled sponsored streams and numerous reports of successful refund requests - even through Sony's typically strict refund policy.
Hotfix #1 is now available on PC (5.7GB) and PS5 (2GB), with Xbox Series X|S (4GB) versions forthcoming, according to Build A Rocket Boy's Discord announcement containing full patch notes.
"This expedited hotfix represents the first in a series of updates addressing player feedback and improving the gaming experience," the developer stated.
The update introduces platform-wide CPU/GPU performance enhancements and memory optimizations. Changes include reduced CPR mini-game difficulty, adjustable Depth of Field settings, and corrected controls for MineHunter and Run Dungeon mini-games.
PC-specific improvements include crash warnings for systems with disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling or problematic CPUs.
The patch resolves the memory leak causing frequent crashes. "Performance optimization remains our top priority and an ongoing commitment requiring further development," the team noted.
Build A Rocket Boy promised continued transparency, stating: "We're fully committed to promptly implementing player feedback through regular updates."
Developers anticipate delivering performance/stability upgrades, rebalanced difficulty settings, animation fixes, and AI improvements by June's end.
Founded by ex-Rockstar North lead Leslie Benzies, Build A Rocket Boy now faces significant challenges to recover MindsEye's reputation. Steam charts, while not comprehensive, show the game peaking at 3,302 concurrent players at launch before dropping to 786. Current active players stand at 435 with 'Mixed' user reviews.
