Team Ninja's long-awaited Ninja Gaiden 4 is finally on the horizon, thanks to a collaborative effort between Team Ninja, Koei Tecmo, and PlatinumGames. Producer Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that the project faced initial hurdles due to conceptual challenges. However, conversations between Koei Tecmo's Hisashi Koinuma, PlatinumGames' Atsushi Inaba, and Xbox's Phil Spencer ultimately led to the three companies joining forces, a partnership that began as early as 2017.
Spencer's involvement proved pivotal, particularly in securing PlatinumGames' expertise in fast-paced action titles like Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, creating the perfect synergy for the new Ninja Gaiden installment.
The surprise announcement last week was accompanied by the immediate release of Ninja Gaiden Master Collection, a remastered version of the Xbox 360 classic Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, now available on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC.
Initial trailers showcase Ryu Hayabusa's return as the protagonist, promising a thrilling slasher experience. Gameplay footage highlights new mechanics, including innovative traversal using wires and rails, setting Ninja Gaiden 4 apart from its predecessors.
While DOOM: The Dark Ages dominated the Developer_Direct event, the reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4 generated significant excitement. The game is slated for release in Fall 2025.
