Despite its impressive commercial success, with Capcom's latest release quickly climbing into Steam's top 10 most-played games, a wave of negative user reviews on the platform highlights severe technical shortcomings. Digital Foundry's in-depth technical analysis of the PC version confirms these widespread performance issues, delivering disappointing findings for potential players.
The analysis revealed a multitude of problems. For instance, initial shader compilation takes approximately 9 minutes on a high-end Ryzen 9 9800X3D system and can exceed 30 minutes on a Ryzen 5 3600 PC. Even with texture quality set to "High," visual fidelity is lacking. Performance on an RTX 4060 at 1440p with "High" settings and Balanced DLSS shows severe frame-time stuttering, and texture quality remains poor even on the more powerful 12GB RTX 4070.
For graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM, Digital Foundry recommends lowering textures to "Medium" to reduce stuttering and frame-time spikes. However, this results in a significant downgrade in visual quality. Rapid camera movements continue to cause noticeable hitches, though slower pans are less affected. Critically, the underlying frame-time inconsistency issue persists regardless of texture settings.
Digital Foundry's Alex Battaglia attributes the core problem to an inefficient data streaming system that overwhelms the GPU during asset decompression. This creates especially severe performance spikes on mainstream and budget GPUs. He does not recommend the game for owners of 8GB graphics cards and advises caution even for those with more powerful hardware like the RTX 4070.
Performance on Intel Arc GPUs is particularly subpar. The Arc A770, for example, struggles to maintain 15-20 frames per second, with frequent texture streaming failures and other graphical glitches. While high-end systems can somewhat mitigate these issues, gameplay still lacks consistent smoothness. Currently, finding a truly optimized graphical setting is nearly impossible without accepting a major compromise in visual fidelity.
