inZOI Cities Can Be Overrun By Ghosts

New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts

inZOI's karma system has the power to turn thriving cities into ghost towns if too many Zois die with low karma scores. In the latest edition of PC Gamer Magazine, inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim highlighted the significant impact of the game’s karma system on player experience.

Kim explained, "Each action taken by a Zoi contributes to their karma points." He further detailed, "Upon death, a Zoi's karma is evaluated. If it's too low, the Zoi becomes a ghost, needing to redeem their karma before they can be reborn."

The accumulation of ghosts can drastically alter a city’s status. Kim noted, "Excessive ghosts prevent new Zois from being born and halt family creation, compelling players to actively manage the karma within their cities." This dynamic adds a layer of strategic depth, as players must maintain a balance to prevent their cities from becoming desolate.

Kim emphasized, "Our system does not simply promote 'good' actions and discourage 'bad' ones." He added, "Life encompasses a spectrum of actions, each with its own significance and value. Players are encouraged to delve into inZOI’s karma system to experience a variety of events and narratives, exploring the multifaceted nature of life."

inZOI Director Has Great Respect for the Legacy The Sims Built

While inZOI may pose a significant challenge to The Sims in the life simulation genre, Director Hyungjun Kim does not view it as a direct competitor. Instead, he sees inZOI as an alternative for fans of the genre.

Kim stated, "We consider inZOI as an additional choice for fans, rather than a competitor to The Sims." He expressed admiration for The Sims, saying, "We hold great respect for the legacy The Sims has built. Achieving such depth in a short time is challenging, given the complexity of life simulation games."

inZOI aims to offer a distinct experience, focusing on its unique features. Kim highlighted, "inZOI empowers players to craft their ideal life through extensive creative tools. With the realistic visuals of Unreal Engine 5, deep customization options, and AI-driven creative tools, we invite players to bring their visions to life, becoming protagonists in their own worlds."
