CD Projekt Red recently confirmed exciting new details about The Witcher 4, including fresh locations and creatures, in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4's Uncharted Territories and Creatures
Unveiling Stromford and the Bauk
Following the Game Awards 2024, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio's Parris. They revealed that The Witcher 4 will introduce players to previously unseen areas and terrifying monsters.
While Ciri follows in Geralt's footsteps, her journey will lead her to unexplored regions of the Continent. Kalemba identified the village in the reveal trailer as Stromford, a place where a chilling ritual involves the sacrifice of young girls to appease their deity.
This "god," according to Kalemba, is a monster named Bauk, inspired by Serbian mythology. Described as a "tricky bastard" that instills primal fear, Bauk is just one of many new monsters players will encounter.
Kalemba expressed his enthusiasm for the new environments and creatures but remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising a completely fresh experience within the familiar setting of the Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP confirmed that The Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond the areas explored by Geralt.
Revolutionizing NPCs in The Witcher 4
The Gamertag Radio interview also shed light on significant improvements to the game's NPCs. Acknowledging the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, Kalemba highlighted the increased diversity in The Witcher 4's trailer. He emphasized the team's focus on giving "every single NPC" a unique life and backstory, influencing their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The close-knit nature of a secluded village, for example, will impact these interactions.
Further enhancements include improved NPC models, with attention to detail in their appearance, behavior, and facial expressions. Kalemba stated their aim is to create an even more immersive experience.
While details remain scarce, these advancements promise richer NPC interactions and a more believable world. For more information on The Witcher 4, be sure to check out our dedicated article!
