Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature previously seen in FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki clarified this decision, stating that the game's approximately forty-minute sessions don't allow sufficient time for players to send or read messages.
"Given the roughly forty-minute session length, there isn't enough time to send or view messages, so we removed the feature," Ishizaki explained.
This choice is noteworthy, as player messaging has been a significant aspect of FromSoftware's games, enhancing player interaction and enjoyment. However, the team deemed it unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It offers a fresh adventure with new challenges and encounters, while preserving the distinctive atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
