EA has officially announced that the next installment in the iconic *Battlefield* series is slated to launch within their fiscal year 2026, spanning from April 2025 to March 2026. This eagerly anticipated release comes after EA shared their financial results for the third quarter of the current fiscal year, ending March 2025.
This week, fans got their first glimpse into the new *Battlefield* game through a pre-alpha gameplay video. This reveal was part of EA's announcement about *Battlefield Labs*, a new initiative designed to foster player-driven testing and innovation. The company is calling on the community to participate in shaping the future of the franchise.
EA has introduced *Battlefield Studios*, an umbrella term for the four studios dedicated to the development of this new game. These include DICE in Stockholm, Sweden, focusing on multiplayer; Motive, known for *Dead Space* and *Star Wars: Squadrons*, which is tackling both single-player missions and multiplayer maps; Ripple Effect in the U.S., tasked with bringing new players into the *Battlefield* universe; and Criterion in the UK, now working on the single-player campaign after concluding their work on *Need for Speed*.
As the development cycle enters a critical phase, EA is keen to gather player feedback to refine and prioritize features before the game's release. Through *Battlefield Labs*, the company plans to test core elements like combat and destruction, alongside weapons, vehicles, gadgets, and maps, modes, and squad play. This includes testing the beloved *Conquest* and *Breakthrough* modes, as well as exploring new ideas and improving the class system to enhance strategic gameplay.
Despite the excitement, it's important to note that EA closed Ridgeline Games last year, which was working on a standalone single-player *Battlefield* game with a strong narrative focus. This decision underscores the shift in focus towards the new multi-studio approach for the franchise.
In September, EA shared further details and concept art, confirming a return to a modern setting following previous games set in World Wars and the near future. The concept art hinted at ship-to-ship and helicopter combat, as well as natural disasters like wildfires. Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization, emphasized a return to the essence of *Battlefield*, particularly referencing the success of *Battlefield 3* and *Battlefield 4*.
The next *Battlefield* game marks a significant pivot from *Battlefield 2042*, which faced criticism for its Specialists and 128-player maps. The upcoming game will revert to 64-player maps and eliminate the Specialist system, aiming to recapture the core *Battlefield* experience that fans loved.
With EA CEO Andrew Wilson labeling this as one of the "most ambitious projects" in the company's history, and the collective effort of four studios, the pressure is on to deliver a game that not only meets but exceeds fan expectations. Vince Zampella expressed EA's commitment to not only winning back the core *Battlefield* community but also expanding the franchise to offer more diverse experiences within the *Battlefield* universe.
As of now, EA has not disclosed the final title or the launch platforms for the new *Battlefield* game, keeping the community eagerly awaiting more details.
