The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Is Already the 3rd Best-Selling Game of 2025 in the U.S., Behind Only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

Fresh off the heels of its surprise release on April 22, *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* has quickly become one of the most talked-about titles of 2025. With a peak Steam concurrent player count of 216,784 and an impressive early reception, it’s no wonder the game has already secured its place as the third best-selling title in the U.S. this year—according to data from Circana's Mat Piscatella.

This achievement is even more notable considering *Oblivion Remastered* launched not only on PC but also on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and was made immediately available through Xbox Game Pass. The sales figures cited by Circana do not include subscription-based access, which means the game’s success is largely driven by direct purchases—a strong indicator of consumer demand and renewed interest in the classic RPG.

What This Means for Future Bethesda Remasters

The overwhelming response to *Oblivion Remastered* all but guarantees that Bethesda will continue its remastering efforts. Among the most anticipated candidates are *Fallout 3*—previously rumored in leaks—and *Fallout: New Vegas*, both of which remain fan favorites despite their age.

Bruce Nesmith, one of *Fallout 3*’s original designers, has acknowledged the game’s dated mechanics, particularly its gunplay. In a recent interview with VideoGamer, he noted that a potential remaster would likely bring combat systems up to par with *Fallout 4*, which saw significant improvements in shooting mechanics and overall gameplay fluidity.

“What did you see in Fallout 4? That will tell you what they felt was necessary to change from Fallout 3,” Nesmith said. “I know in Fallout 4 there was a lot of work done on the gun combat, because Fallout 3 is the first time they ever tried to do a shooter-style game. And, well, I think the work that was done was amazing.”

Oblivion Remastered: A Benchmark for Classic RPGs

Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, *Oblivion Remastered* offers a substantial visual and mechanical overhaul. The game now runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, featuring enhanced character creation tools, refined combat animations, improved menus, new dialogue lines, a fully integrated third-person perspective, and advanced lip-sync technology.

Fans have praised the update, with many suggesting the term “remaster” doesn’t quite capture the scope of changes. Some have gone so far as to call it “Oblivion 2.0”—a sentiment echoed by Nesmith himself, who noted that the game has been elevated beyond just a graphical refresh.

“Oblivion wasn’t just brought up to the 2011 version of Skyrim. It was brought up to something that, at least on the surface, looks like it exceeds the most recent graphics update in Skyrim.”

Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Bethesda?

With *The Elder Scrolls VI* and possible *Starfield* expansions currently in development, along with ongoing support for *Fallout 76* and the upcoming *Fallout TV Show* Season 2 set in New Vegas, it's clear that Bethesda is investing heavily in its legacy properties.

If *Oblivion Remastered* sets the standard, fans can expect future remasters—like potentially *Fallout 3* or *New Vegas*—to deliver much more than just updated visuals. They’ll be reimagined experiences tailored for modern audiences while preserving the essence of what made them beloved in the first place.
